is the Child Abuse Prevention Council for Ventura County and serves a major

collaborating, coordinating, networking, educational, outreach, and communication

resource inhelping children and families at all stages of the life span.

  • For Resource/Fundraising/Grant information: name of the resource, brief description, website,and contact information.

Family Activism: How to Apply Self-Help Tools to

Increase Family Healing and Power

The Oxnard Community Peace Project, The Partnership, and The Oxnard Alliance for Community Strength, presented Family Activism: How to Apply Self-Help Tools to Increase Family Healing and Power workshop with Dr. Roberto Vargas, on December 9, 2009 from 8:30am-12pm, located at Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation, 702 Country Square Dr., Ventura, 93003.

This workshop was for professionals and advocates committed to proactive strategies for violence prevention.

Presenter Information:

Dr. Roberto Vargas is a nationally recognized planning facilitator, leadership trainer

and author of Family Activism: Empowering Your Community Beginning with Family

and Friends (2008). Together with the Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation

Dr. Vargas initiated the Oxnard Family Power Project in 2008 to engage youth and

families to identify strategies for violence prevention and community betterment.

Learn about our county-wide strategies for community wellness and violence prevention.

Experience the Family & Community Power Approach as a proactive strategy for family and community well-being.

Develop understanding on how to use Family Activism to foster self-confident and supportive families and friendship networks.

Explore the use of co-powering communication, family councils, talking-stick and unity circles as self-help tools to increase family and group wellness
